Liu joined work in North China Pharmaceutical Factory in June 1958, focusing on penicillin manufacturing and fermentation. Liu has achieved groundbreaking work in the overall rational design of the fermentation plant system, in the process of improving the fermentation level, the design of large-scale fermentation tanks, the innovation of air sterilization equipment, the reduction of the contamination rate, and the application of membrane technology in fermentation production.

The scientific and technological achievement "NCPC Strain Fermentation New Technology" won the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award, and the "Reduction of Bacteria Contamination Rate" won the Hebei Province Excellent QC Achievement Award. Liu is the author of "Fermentation Uniform Contaminating Bacteria", "200 Questions about Uniform Contaminating Bacteria", "Design and Purification Management of Air Sterilization Equipment", "Application of Membrane Technology in Fermentation Production", "Fermentation Engineering Technology and Practice", etc.

From 1989 to 2010, Liu went to 30 antibiotic fermentation companies across the country for project construction certification, design transformation, commissioning guidance, process training, technical lectures, etc.
