Li is mainly engaged in the research and development and industrial application of chemical process separation and energy-saving process integration, including the research and development of high-efficiency mass transfer equipment, separation and purification technology, reaction separation integration technology, chemical process system engineering and energy saving and emission reduction. A series of his technical achievements have been widely used in projects such as potential exploitation, energy saving, and environmental protection in petrochemical, chemical, pharmaceutical and other industries. Over the past 30 years, there have been more than 4,000 applications in large and medium-sized enterprises in 31 provinces and cities in China, as well as in countries such as India and Cuba. This has effectively solved the bottleneck problem in production and has greatly promoted the upgrading of product quality. In recent years, the economic benefits created for enterprises have exceeded 15 billion yuan.

As a project leader, Li has successively completed more than 120 major national scientific and technological projects, western China development and other scientific research projects, leading his team to conduct research and produce a number of scientific research results such as "new three-dimensional mass transfer tray technology and its application in the chemical industry", "chemical process integration and energy comprehensive utilization technology". As the first author of many works of significance, Li successively won the first prize of Hebei Province Science and Technology Progress Award, the first prize of Tianjin Science and Technology Progress Award, the first prize of Hebei Province Technical Invention, the first prize of Hebei Province Teaching Achievement Award, the Hebei Province Science and Technology Outstanding Contribution Award, and the National Science and Technology Award.
