In 1997 and 1999, Gu went to the Department of Chemistry of the University of Nebraska in the United States as a visiting scholar, having engaged in chemical process simulation and development, separation engineering and other aspects of work for many years. Gu has presided over 1 National Natural Science Youth Fund and 1 863 Sub-project, 2 973 Sub-projects, and undertook 1 863 Sub-project and a number of National Natural Science Funds projects as the main undertaker. Gu successively undertook more than 100 projects from China Petrochemical Corporation, North China Pharmaceutical, etc., such as "Recovery of Dimethylformamide in Dry Proline Production", "Design of Fangjing Tower Separation System", "Development of Solvent Recovery System", "Development of new technology for pyrolysis liquid extraction, degassing and decolorization and toluene acid washing in pilot test", "Optimization of 7-ADCA cracking technology", "Process wastewater treatment in polyester and unit simulation", "Research on cyclohexane oxidation reaction and in-tank Component Design" etc. At present, there are more than 200 columns personally designed and debugged by him in domestic petrochemical, chemical fiber, pharmaceutical and other fields, including rectification towers, extraction towers, absorption towers, etc. Gu has more than 10 personal patents, published more than 200 papers in core journals at home and abroad, and published textbooks.
Gu has won 1 second prize of "National Science and Technology Progress Award", 1 first prize of Science and Technology Progress Award of China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation, 1 first prize of basic category of "Beijing Science and Technology" Award, second prize of Beijing Educational Reform Award, one second prize of Hebei Province Science and Technology Progress Award.
